Bilder, Bewältigung & Erinnerungskulturen

Interdisciplinary event series

Under the title »Bilder, Bewältigung und Erinnerungskulturen«, the IPU Berlin and AMCHA Germany e. V. are inviting participants to a joint lecture series this year, following on from “Encountering Transgenerational Trauma” (2024). The series will examine the interactions between transgenerational trauma, memory culture, and psychosocial responsibility in the context of collective violence. This year's series will open with a lecture by Dr. Juliette Brungs on 15 July 2025.

The IPU Berlin is organizing this series together with Amcha Deutschland e. V. For more than 35 years, Amcha Deutschland e. V. has been supporting the psychosocial services provided by its sister organization Amcha in Israel for survivors of the Shoah and their descendants. In 2025, Amcha Germany will address key challenges in psychosocial care, international networking, and society's engagement with the transgenerational consequences of collective violence. In light of the significant rise in anti-Semitism and anti-Gypsyism, the intergenerational consequences of violence must be made more visible and firmly anchored in public debate. Against the backdrop of the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe and the rapidly declining number of eyewitnesses to historical events, the understanding of the significance of transgenerational trauma will be deepened and social responsibility for a sustainable approach to the issue will be strengthened.
